What is Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)?

Open source software (OSS) are licensed that permits you to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified form.  This means, you're free to copy and use them without any vendor lock-in.

Example of FOSS: Linux, Firefox, Notepad++, VIM, Amarok, GIMP, OpenOffice.org

Who should join the community?

You would feel right at home if you like FOSS stuff. Whether you're a professional or a newbie, a designer or a programmer, have a day job or a student, like to garden in the weekend or to rock climb, we would like to have you in the community. We are open to all women who's been using or interested in FOSS.

Of course we are very women focused (activities and goals), as the 'chix' suggests, but we're hoping there are men also who's not afraid of losing their manliness by joining the community because you won't. You supporting us means you rock!
